Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How long does the adoption process take?

    • The process of a home study usually takes 2-3 months, but sometimes even less.  Expedited home study services are available and can usually be completed in 2-3 weeks.  After a home study is approved, it is just a matter of waiting for the right match!  For an estimate of current waiting times, please call the agency.

  • How much does an adoption cost?

    • The costs of an adoption are spread out over the course of the process.  The only fee due to start the process is the home study fee.  Additional fees are staggered throughout the adoption process.  The total agency cost of an adoption can range from $7,000-$15,000.  You will never find any hidden fees and all costs will be detailed for you at the time you start the process.

  • What if I can’t pay the entire fee at once?

    • Don’t worry!  Open Arms Adoption seeks to be your partner during your adoption journey.  A payment plan can easily be worked out to meet your comfort level.

  • I heard that it is hard to find healthy babies, is that true?

    • No. Healthy babies are not hard to find.  Although sometimes a birth parent has some health difficulties, adoptive parents always receive a full social and medical history of the birth parent and have the opportunity to make an informed decision about their adoption.   Additionally, all birth parents are drug tested to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

  • Can I choose the gender or ethnicity of the child I adopt?

    • Of course.  It is important that the child you adopt is the right fit for your family.  Your preferences regarding gender and ethnicity will always be respected.

  • Do you offer adoption services to same sex couples and single parents?

    • Absolutely.  Open Arms Adoption provides adoption services to everyone—regardless of gender, race, religion, marital status, or sexual orientation.

  • Why should I choose a local agency instead of a national agency?

    • A local agency will provide the close attention your case deserves.  At Open Arms Adoption, your birth mother will be from Nevada and will have a case worker to work closely with her throughout her pregnancy. That same case worker will work with you closely.  Choosing a local agency ensures that you will have the most attentive and detailed service possible.
